3 Inches of Blood

Cassie interviews Cam Pipes of 3 Inches of Blood

3 Inches of Blood has arrived to tread on the bleached bones of those exhausted genres. A band to unite the tribes of mall rats, skaters, punks and bikers under one banner. Because, after years of a steady de-evolution of the founding tenets of heavy music, to today's ears, 3 Inches Of Blood's ADVANCE AND VANQUISH could not be more fresh. See what Cam had to say:

First things first. How did you all meet and get started as a band?
Bunch of friends just decided to do something different than what they were used to playing.

How do you normally write/put together songs? Do you have spontaneous “jam” type sessions, or is it a bit more structured? Or neither or both?
We do just jam out sometimes cuz it helps get ideas and other times someone comes in with a riff and we’ll work around that.

Who would you list as your primary influences? Do you enjoy any 80’s metal?
There are too many to list just a few, but basically most old British rock and metal bands from the 70’s and 80’s.

How do you like the touring life? Where are some of your favorite places to perform? Do you like touring with any particular bands? Any special traveling traditions/pastimes you’d like to share?
Touring is fun, but not for the weak-stomached individual. There’s a lot of adjusting to a busy tour schedule, but it’s worth it. We’ve had the pleasure of touring with many great bands both musically and personally. Our favorite pastime is consuming copious amounts of beer and smoke.

What are your favorite songs to perform, and why?
Revenge is a Vulture is a favorite because it’s got a neat intro riff.

What’s in your CD player/MP3 player right now?
Mastodon – “Leviathan”.

My absolute favorite song on the “advance and Vanquish” album is “Wykydtron”. It has a sort of crazy, drunken, sing-along vibe to it.; Did you have that mood in mind when you wrote it? What was the inspiration behind that song?
Wykydtron was created out of the random desire to do a space age themed song about cyborg revolution.

How do you and Jamie keep your voices in such great condition?
Singing everyday helps keep the voice warmed up and ready to go whenever. Cold water gargled before a show helps me get the phlegm out. Jamie, however, likes having phlegm in his throat for screaming and growling so he drinks lots of beer before the show.

If each of you could be any sound effect, what would you be, and why?
I would be the sound of swords clashing, the rest of the guys sound like farts.

Thanks to Cassie for conducting the interview and thanks to Cam Pipes of 3 Inches of Blood for his time and for doing this interview for us.
